Bottle House Rehabilitation

Well it has been a long time coming, but it is finally here. Tom Kelly's Bottle House was rehabilitated by Reva Murphy Associates out of California. A Cooperative effort by The Bureau of Land Management Battle Mountain and Tonoaph, Rhyolite Preservation Society and the Rhyolite Caretakers. Many thanks to Central Nevada Museum and The Beatty Museum and Historical Society for making sure we had enough bottles to replace the broken and missing ones. It could not have been done without your generous support.

I have a lot of photos to show you. But first, meet the young men that put life back in the Bottle House.

Left to right:
Vincente Berber who joined us the last two days to help finish up.
Gerargo Alba replaced bottles and pointed the entire house
Raul Incoencia roofed and shingled the house, joined in on the 2nd week.
Jose Lozano is the supervisor, and helped with everything.
Jake Betz the wood and metal man.
We need to give these young men a loud round of applause. They did a wonderful job on the old house. And to be fair to them all, you could never catch them just lounging around. Everyone worked a good 10 to 12 hour day, helping where needed. Everyone of these young men did it all. And they did it in 21 Days

There are several pages of photos, I hope you enjoy watching the Bottle House Restoration in progress.

Getting ready to remove boards
from the corner. Hmmmmm, wonder
what's underneath there?

Yup, looking pretty bad

A close up of looking pretty bad

Another Close up of looking Really Bad !

Donovan was the contractor. He
started taking bottles from the
corner. The adobe was so bad that it
just fell apart here.

This corner is going to be rebuilt.

Testing the adobe mixture on the corner

The foundation goes down about two feet

Gerargo is rebuilding the
corner. I think Tom Kelly
would be proud.
